Strangers Know More originally came together as a vehicle for Chris Ames’s prolific song writing. In the early days, while managed by the Hell’s Angels, they did all the big biker festivals such as the Bull Dog Bash and the Kent Bike show and recorded an album at Damion Corner’s studio, although this was never to see the light of day as due to differing opinions on the direction the band should take they parted company.
Moving to France and with a new line-up, Chris, independently produced and recorded two albums, (Rumours, Lies, Tears and Tantrums and Back on Your Heads) which were extremely well received, created a dedicated following and put them back on the big festival circuit. However, a serious and fatal, for the drummer, car crash, brought Chris back to the UK and looking for a ‘new band’.
Unbelievably but nonetheless true, he found his right-hand man, original Department S member, Sam, living in the same tiny village on the Essex/Suffolk borders. With very different musical backgrounds but the same passion, they set about reforming Strangers Know More, seeking out the perfect rhythm section. Not as straightforward as they had at first hoped, but then along came Stuart, a great musician and enthusiastic performer, followed by Ian their solid, dependable bass player. Now, as a band, they complete and complement each other's style and are going from strength to strength.
