Ian Pawsey - Bass Guitar - Vocals
I was born in Uganda, into a very musical family. My dad was a drummer in the RAF (but his real musical passion was for Rock and Blues) However, we came back to live in the UK though when personally asked to leave by Idi Amin, not someone you argued with but that's another story!
I studied music at school, initially as a vocalist, but was 'turned on' to the Bass Guitar by a great teacher we had at the time. I was instantly hooked! Influenced by the 80's Jazz Funk style of the likes of Mark King and Marcus Miller I concentrated heavily on 'slap' bass. With my brother, who went on to become an accomplished pianist, on keyboards, we formed a school band, started writing our own material and competing in various national music competitions with much success.
At the age of 18, GCSE's passed (with distinctions) I left school and the school band behind me and up until the age of 30 took up a career playing bass with many, varied bands, whilst also running several pubs across Essex. This, however, led to far too much drinking and I ended up on a bender for a while, giving up the bass altogether, eventually taking up a career in sales. Although, needless to say, my passion for music never left me, so when a few years later I was asked to join a covers band, I got back on the circuit.
It was during this time, at a gig, I was reunited with the love of my life, Tina, having found my feet again we settled down and got married. Life was great but I couldn't find what I was looking for musically until I was approached by SKM. Their original music, so far removed from my musical past but I knew my dad, who has now sadly passed away, would have loved it so I thought I'd give it a go.
Guess what? I love it too!! I've found my musical home!!
